Work & Travel

Summer Work and Travel USA is a student exchange program that allows international students to work legally in the United States on a J-1 visa for three months during their summer vacation and learn about everyday life and culture in the United States.
The program was initiated by the US Department of State and is implemented by sponsors approved by the State Department. In addition to being the program's visa guarantor, the sponsors are responsible for providing work, accommodation, and other services during their stay in the United States. The first Mongolian student participated in the program while studying in Hungary, and since 2005 students from Mongolia have officially started participating in the program. Through the Summer Work & Travel program, hundreds of Mongolian students travel to the United States to learn about everyday life in the United States and spend their summer vacations productively. Participants are legally entitled to health and social insurance and other benefits for three months.

The program allows you to travel to most cities in the United States, mostly in tourist areas, and work in hotels, restaurants, resorts, national parks, amusement parks, supermarkets, and retail stores. The work environment and wages are governed by U.S. labor law, and income tax is paid in the United States during the period of employment. Before going to the United States, all the information about what to do and where to work became clear before the start of the program.

Program requirements:

  • University and College student
  • Between 18-28 years old
  • Have a good English speaking skills
  • Flexible and Adaptable

If you are interested in learning about the daily life and culture of the United States, discovering yourself, spending your summer vacation efficiently, improving your English speaking skills, and studying in the United States, the Summer Work and Travel program is the cheapest and most appropriate solution.

In 1996, a total of 20,728 students from all over the world participated in the Work & Travel program, while in 2008 this number reached 153,859. (Presentation by Dave Causer, President of Global Educational Concepts 2009)
